Located along the eastern shoreline of Lake Chatuge just north of the town of Hiawassee is Jackrabbit Mountain Recreation Area. Jackrabbit Mountain Campground offers scenic lakeside camping in the beautiful Nantahala National Forest of southwestern North Carolina. A trail connects the campground with the trailhead so hikers dont have to walk along the road to. Verlot is one one of six campgrounds in the area with the campsites snuggled up near the soothing waters of the South Fork Stillaguamish River. Three loops with 100 sites for tent or trailer camping are available. Located in Hayesville North Carolina Jackrabbit is a mere 10 minutes from downtown Hayesville and about 30 minutes from downtown Murphy.
The sites on the lake are incredible very quiet and restful.
Take Exit 27 onto 74West19-23South. Nantahala National Forest. No hook-ups are available for RVs. Turn right onto State Road 1155 which turns into Forest Road 248. Camping is available nearby in the Jackrabbit Mountain Campground which is on the lake shore. Its only minutes from Hiawassee and some very good restaurants.
